Thankful Christians

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Have you every wondered what a truly “Thankful Christian” was really like? I believe we can find the answer in the Bible. Would you consider some thoughts, though not exhaustive, with me today?

First, this kind of Christian is “Surrendered” to the will of God.  Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica and said to them, “In everything give thanks:  for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Do you wonder what God’s will is for you?  Begin by being thankful and He will want to reveal to you the rest of His will for you.

Second, this kind of Christian is “Sacrificial”“And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD, offer it at your own will. – Le 22:29.   Ps 116:17  – I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD. This is the sacrifice of one’s own will.  It is empty of selfish desires and has left no strings attached.

Last, this kind of Christian is “Serving”.  When we read Psalm 100 we read where we are to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord” and to “enter His gates with thanksgiving” yet in between the two we are admonished to “Serve the Lord with gladness”.  A Christian has a difficult time balancing his shout and his sacrifice without service.  It is in serving the Lord, who has redeemed us, with gladness that we can rejoice and give thanks.

Are we truly “Thankful Christians”?  Can others tell?  What does God think?

How Do You See?

In the Mark 8:22-25 we find the story of the man who was blind and was touched by the Lord.  The Lord then asked him if he saw anything and he replied, ” I see men as trees, walking”.  The Lord then touched him again and then the man “saw every man clearly”.

At the beginning this man had “Closed Sight” for he could not see and speaks of the sinner who is lost.  Then the Lord touched him and now he has “Clouded Sight” for he could only see men as they were, only slightly and speaks of the Christian who only sees men nominally.  Finally, the Lord touched this man again and his sight was restored completely to “Clear Sight”.  He now sees men as God sees men, clearly.

Many pastors and christians are like this man who was touched by the Lord in salvation yet are still in need of a second touch from the Lord that they may see men as clearly as God does.

Has God touched you lately, again?

“The average pastor views his church as a local church with a missions program; while he ought to realize that if he is in fact pastoring a church, it is to be a global church with a missions purpose.”
